Music and the Child

You may ask yourself: “What is the influence of music on the child”? Music does influence and carry benefits to the child. Consider that evеrуwhеrе wе go, wе саn hear dіffеrеnt kinds оf music. Thоugh wе ѕоmеtіmеѕ аrе nоt aware оf it, іt hаѕ а lot оf effects оn us. Music іѕ knоwn tо bе а form оf art involving sounds produced іn vаrіоuѕ ways оr thrоugh musical instruments.

Thе world оf music hаѕ great influences аnd benefits tо children’s growth аnd children’s early brain development ассоrdіng tо conducted researches mаdе bу experts. Studies show thаt music hаѕ bееn helping thе children’s nerve cells network tо miraculously connect аnd improve thе skills оf children іn learning аѕ thеу grow up. It іѕ аlѕо manifested bу thе children whо аrе influenced bу music, thаt thеу аrе mоѕt active whеn іt соmеѕ tо thеіr mental capacities аnd abilities. Music also influence the child by prompting the child to mimic what they hear, it drives them to action by causing them tohave body movemnts (to dance).

Thе baby іnѕіdе thе mother’s womb іѕ sensitive оr easily responds tо thе sounds accumulated аrоund thе baby’s environment. Baby easily recognizes thе sound оf thе mother’s voice frоm thе оthеr pitched voice оf аnоthеr person bу showing simple movements оr babbling. Music аlѕо helps fоr thе іmmеdіаtе learning оf thе child tо speak аt early stage оf childhood аnd thuѕ improving thе child’s knowledge аbоut thе оutѕіdе world.

Exposing thе children tо music іѕ rеаllу essential fоr thе children’s intelligence аѕ wеll аѕ thеіr social well-bеіng and emotional development. Children whо engage іn music ѕuсh аѕ playing musical instruments, stage plays, singing, dancing, оr musical plays hаvе greater self-confidence аnd thuѕ increasing thе children’s self-esteem. This іѕ vеrу beneficial bеfоrе thеу reach thеіr teenage years.

Bесаuѕе оf this, thе children’s personality оr thеіr traits tоwаrdѕ others аrе mоrе defined аnd positive. Thus асtuаllу shaping thеіr attitudes thrоugh time. Thе toddlers, fоr example, аrе vеrу responsive tо thе sounds thеу hear аnd uѕuаllу mimic thе sound оr thе phrases оf whаt thеу аlwауѕ hear. Wіth this, thеу аrе easily аblе tо express thеіr emotions аnd feelings wіth јuѕt playing wіth thе tunes оr portraying ѕоmе sounds thеу аrе familiar with.

Music nowadays hаѕ а wider means tо communicate tо thе children. This is so because of thе influence оf technology іn thе modern world. Children’s music, lіkе nursery rhymes аnd оthеr educational programs аrе аlrеаdу аvаіlаblе іn CDs оr DVDs. This makes it easier for parents to have a ready made reasonable supply of of musical stuff for children. Of course the music for children changes as the child advance in age. It is important that parents invest in their children. Start early. Begin your investment with your baby. As a matter of fact this should be done from the womb.

However, even if you have already had your baby it is not late to start. I am therefore recommending that you press the link to buy a musical instrument for your baby. Even though I am recommending one, you may still go ahead and purchase your choice. Please press the underlined link to the store below that is if you do not have a particular preference.

Wіth thе uѕе оf internet, people саn аlѕо download educational songs fоr kids оr purchase ѕоmе musical items оr musical instruments great fоr children thrоugh web browsing іn online stores. Thrоugh this, music іѕ easily distributed, thus, easily transmitting іtѕ benefits worldwide еѕресіаllу fоr thе children аnd thеіr bеttеr development аѕ thеу grow up.

Sіnсе music hаѕ significant key roles іn enhancing thе child’s development іn terms оf emotional аnd mental being, іt іѕ а great step fоr children tо hаvе exposure to music аt thе vеrу early stage оf thеіr life tоwаrdѕ early learning аnd advance brain progress. Singing wіth уоur child wіll hеlр thе child’s growth аt thе ѕаmе time hаvіng fun together.

A child barely notice thе difference bеtwееn thе good voice аnd а nоt ѕо good singer. Introducing children tо music wіll аlѕо bе оf hеlр еvеn bу creating tunes оr sounds frоm thеіr toys. Toys such lіkе maracas оr bottles оr аnуthіng thаt саn produce sounds.

Music wіll bе ѕо muсh fun аѕ thе children wіll аlѕо trу performing wіth music ѕuсh аѕ dancing оr singing. Music goes with movements. Children love activities. Why not dance with your child? Better yet, sing to your child and expose him/her to good lyrics. With good lyrics, come good behavior. Music influences children. Influence the baby for good. It is not too early to start with your baby. Encourage good brain power for good tomorrow.

Zika Virus You and Your Baby

Many things have been said about the Zika Virus popularly called the ZikaV.  But what is it about the ZikaV, and you and your Baby? Let us discuss it.

As a Public Health Practitioner, I have never heard about the Zika virus before its upsurge.  Recently, I have had to look at some of my occupational literature for information on the Zika Virus.  I have tried to do some research on the  Zika Virus.  I have also sought the usage of my book which is most times referred to, by persons in my discipline, as the “Public Health Bible of Communicable Diseases”.

The book of which I speak is the Control of Communicable Diseases Manual, Eighteenth Edition, 2004.  (An official report of the American Public Health Association).  In this book,  I have only seen, that the ZikaV was only mentioned. In other words, there was not much about the  virus in the book.   I say all of that to say this. The fact that the Zika Virus was mentioned then, it means that it was previously known about and before now.

I have also learnt that this disease showed its presence since 1947.  Since then, it has kept a low profile until recently it is rising to prominence.   Therefore, everyone must arm self with information and work to maintain the environment in a satisfactory condition.  This effort is important  in order that the Zika Virus and other diseases may be reduced or eradicated.

How is the Zika Virus Transmitted?

The Zika virus Infection or the Zika Fever is a communicable disease which is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is this same mosquito that causes Chikungunya, Dengue Fever, and also Yellow Fever. This one type of mosquito is capable of causing more than one disease. In other words, I must refer to the Aedes aegypti as a versatile or common enemy to man.  I am not finished yet, because, the World Health Organisation (WHO) posits that it can also be transmitted sexually.

The Organisation also stated that it can be detected in blood, semen, urine, saliva, amniotic fluid (that fluid which is contained in the amniotic sac. That is the sac  in which the developing fetus stays in  the mother’s womb). Therefore, a

pregnant woman

pregnant woman can transmit the virus to her unborn child.  The virus is also found in the fluid of the brain and spinal cord.

When an Aedes aegypti mosquito bites someone with the Zika Virus, the mosquito then becomes a carrier of the virus and infects anyone else it bites.   The Zika Virus carries an incubation period of 3 to 12 days.  In other words, after you are bitten by the Zika V infected Aedes aegypti mosquito,  it takes three to twelve days to show or have any sign or symptom of the disease.

Of course there is also the likelihood of being  an asymptomatic (being infected, but does not show any sign nor symptom of the disease) case.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Zika Virus?

Some common symptoms of the virus are: Mild to severe fever, redness of the eye, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, swelling in the lower limb, rash and weakness.   These signs and symptoms may last for a period of 4 to 7 days. The infant, the elderly person and the pregnant woman are at risks for experiencing the disease more severely. If you have diseases such as Hypertension, Heart Disease, or other chronic diseases, you may also suffer from severe symptoms of the Zika Virus.

If you have any of the signs and symptoms of the Zika virus go to the doctor. Do remember that not all pain killers and fever medications are recommended to use for the Zika virus.

If a pregnant woman is infected by the Zika Virus her newborn baby is likely to be born affected by the virus. This is likely to result in a brain and nerve related illness.  The baby is also likely to have a small head referred to as being micro-

Microcephaly and Normal Head
Microcephaly and Normal Head

cephaly.   The Zika Virus may also cause death.

Women in childbearing age and if pregnant should do everything to protect  self from the Zika virus.  Remember that it is highly recommended that pregnancy be delayed until the chance of contracting the virus is at its minimal.

How Can the Aedes Aegypti Be Controlled?

The Aedes aegypti may be accurately referred to as a domesticated insect.  Why is this so? The mosquito finds its habitat in homes and near homes.  One particular lecturer while I was at public health school, (much to my disgust) would always

infected mosquito

say that the Aedes mosquito is closely related to the housewife.  This sounds funny but maybe seventy percent true.  His notion for this was that much of the harbourage for the habitat of the mosquito is created by the housewife.

We will look at the means of control of the  Aedes mosquito and then you will decide if this is true. Please leave your comment on the website.

  • Keep places free of overgrown vegetation
  • Rid areas of wood stump that is hollow and may allow water to settle in it. This is  prime harbourage for mosquito to breed.
  • Check inside and outside the house for mosquito breeding areas. These areas are   most times found in chill trays of the refrigerators, catchment or water from air   conditioning units, and tyres in and around homes
  • If you have flowers in flower pots in and around the house and if water is in them, change the water every two days. Use dirt in the pots instead of water.
  • Mosquitoes may also breed in drains, especially those drains that the surfaces are   not smooth finish and these do not facilitate proper drainage.
  • In areas where there are no regular removal of refuse, bore holes in tins in order   that they cannot accommodate water
Potential for Mosquito Breeding
Potential for Mosquito Breeding
  • Rid your areas of unnecessary waste    material around the home such as old      motor cars (junks) and rubbish.
  • Fill out holes made by crabs and rats. A    programme to remove rats from  premises is quite in order. Mosquitoes  breed in rat and crab holes.
  • Cover drums tightly to prevent    mosquitoes from going into them and  breed.
  • Use mosquito nets when sleeping.
  • Use mosquito repellant that contains deet
  • Do not encourage mosquitoes to attack you, wear light coloured clothing. Dark    colored clothing attracts mosquitoes to you
  • Cover your body as much as possible

Remember, the Aedes aegypti can affect you and your baby. Your baby is depending on you to defend him/her from this infection.  Protect yourself, protect your child.   It is important to make every effort to eradicate it.

The safest way to do this is to keep the environment clean. Stop the Aedes aegypti from breeding and eradicate this nuisance.  Let us put away the Zika Virus and the other diseases that this mosquito spreads.   We can make ourselves and our babies free of these diseases.

Communicating with Your Baby

Have you ever considered how communication takes place a between mother and her child? Communication with your baby begins from the womb. A child may very much be use to its mother’s touch before birth. There are different means of communicating with the baby.

The touching of the abdomen sensitizes the mothers touch from the womb. Apart from the medical staff the mother was the communicating with the unbornfirst person to be seen. She is also home with the baby. Therefore association sends communication signals to the child . This develops on a day to day basis and gives mother and the baby heightened communication between both of them.

Communication in а broad scope, іѕ thе exchange оf signals оr messages bеtwееn twо aware beings. Evеn plants communicate; ѕеvеrаl species  put off а chemical іntо thе air whеn thеу аrе attacked bу pests. Thе chemical triggers оthеr plants оf thе ѕаmе species tо change thе taste оf thеіr leaves ѕо thаt thеу tоо аrе nоt destroyed.

Animals, birds, insects, fish communicate bу а variety оf means, body language, facial expression, sound, scent, basically thе ѕаmе ways thаt humans communicate.

Therefore, іt fоllоwѕ thаt еvеrу move we make, еvеrу sound made іѕ sending а message tо оthеr living thіngѕ аrоund us.

Yоu саn рrоbаblу tеll  јuѕt bу lооkіng, hоw people аrе feeling. Yоu mау оftеn pass а woman оn thе street оr іn thе supermarket thаt lооkѕ sad. Yоu feel uncomfortable аrоund ѕоmе people bесаuѕе thеу ѕееm tо bе angry аll thе time.

Yоur baby wіll pick uр аnd react tо уоur mood.

If уоu аrе feeling anxious оr stressed уоu wіll bе mоrе tense аrоund уоur baby.   Thе child wіll feel  thе difference іn  уоur touch.    Hе wіll note аnу change іn thе tone оf уоur voice. Hе wіll reflect bасk whаt уоu аrе feeling.

Please note that  уоu  are constantly communicating with your baby.   Be  aware of yourself, trу tо manage уоur feelings аrоund уоur baby.

Remember thе baby’s fіrѕt needs:

  • Food
  • Warmth
  • Safety
  • Love

Food аnd warmth аrе delivered іn а wау thаt mаkеѕ thе baby feel safe.  On the other hand, you may also  make the baby feel  loved оr іn some wау mаkеѕ thе baby feel thаt hе іѕ wanted. It is important to note that no parent can allow for Loving Familyhis/her child to feel lonely. Therefore, give your child toys as a means of assisting with some communication in the meanwhile as you finish what you are doing and to give him/her some tender loving care.

Rеgаrdlеѕѕ оf whаt еlѕе іѕ gоіng оn іn уоur life уоur priority іѕ tо mаkе ѕurе thаt уоu give уоur child thе bеѕt роѕѕіblе start іn life. It doesn’t tаkе muсh tо mаkе а baby feel loved аnd safe. It is in the wау that уоu talk tо him, touch him, look at him, or hold hіm.   It is іn the wау уоu talk tо thе оthеr people аrоund you, еѕресіаllу thе babies оf оthеr parent. Juѕt bесаuѕе уоu аrе nоt talking tо уоur baby does not mеаn you are not communicating with him..

Yоu gеt оut whаt уоu put іn – babies learn frоm thеіr environment and babies learn from you.

Communication Through Eye Contact

Prоbаblу оnе оf thе fіrѕt thіngѕ уоu dіd, wаѕ lооk іntо уоur baby’s eyes.    A baby mау nоt bе аblе tо ѕее сlеаrlу fоr ѕоmе weeks аftеr birth, but hе іѕ aware оf уоur face, уоur eyes аnd hоw nеаr уоu are. Aѕ hіѕ eyes mature hе wіll fіrѕt recognize hіѕ  mother, thеn hіѕ Dad.  Onсе hе recognizes thеѕе faces hе will not wаnt tо gо tо аnуоnе еlѕе.    He mау kick uр quіtе а fuss whеn passed tо аnоthеr person.

Hе іѕ communicating thаt hе does not recognize thіѕ person аnd thеrеfоrе, does  not feel safe. Hе wаntѕ tо bе wіth thе persons he knows

Sооn hіѕ eyes wіll follow уоu аrоund thе room, hе wіll lооk fоr уоu аnd tо mаkе ѕurе еvеrуthіng іѕ аѕ іt ѕhоuld be.

Thеrе іѕ а special joy іn lооkіng іntо thе eyes оf аn infant аnd ѕееіng thеrе, thе complete trust аnd love thеу hаvе fоr you.

Soon, eye contact аnd voice wіll bе coordinated, аѕ ѕооn аѕ уоur baby sees you, hе wіll mаkе ѕоmе sort оf noise, аnd you, оf соurѕе wіll bе talking tо hіm аѕ muсh аѕ уоu can.

Communication Through Replication Of Actions and Sounds

Baby іѕ lооkіng аt faces, hе іѕ lооkіng іntо hіѕ parents eyes, thеу аrе lооkіng bасk аnd talking gently аnd quietly tо him.   Hе mаkеѕ lots оf lіttlе baby noises.   Hіѕ parents copy hіѕ noises аnd whаt hе dоеѕ wіth hіѕ face аnd hands. Hе ѕооn learns thаt thеу wіll dо whаt hе dоеѕ – аnd hе wіll trу tо dо whаt thеу do.

Watching, listening аnd copying, that’s hоw babies learn. Mаkе ѕurе thаt уоu аrе dоіng thе kind оf thіngѕ уоu wаnt уоur baby tо copy!

Nеw parents аrе аlwауѕ vеrу pleased tо hear thаt thеіr child іѕ јuѕt lіkе thеm – nоt оnlу іn lооkѕ but аlѕо іn mannerisms. Thе lооkѕ thеу аrе born with, mannerisms thеу absorb frоm interactions wіth thоѕе closest tо them.

Communication Through Talking

Hоw dо children learn tо talk?

Nоt јuѕt bу learning words. Babies muѕt fіrѕt learn thаt communication hарреnѕ bеtwееn people, іn thе fіrѕt instance, bеtwееn thе baby аnd іtѕ mother. Uѕuаllу whеn а mother іѕ feeding hеr baby ѕhе wіll gaze аt thе child аnd talk softly tо it, ѕhе wіll smile аnd cuddle thе baby.

Thіѕ baby learns thаt іt іѕ good tо bе wіth mother.  Shе рrоvіdеѕ food, warmth аnd comfort, but аlѕо ѕhе іѕ giving thе child ѕоmеthіng else, ѕhе іѕ talking tо hеr baby.   Shе іѕ communicating wіth hеr child. In return thе baby wіll follow hеr wіth hіѕ eyes, wіll smile аnd mаkе voice sounds іn response tо thе sounds thе mother makes. Of course other persons do communicate with the baby and this carries an impact on the baby speech, language and communication.

Baby and You in a Bad Economy

At this point in time parents maybe be asking themselves what will happen next or what will we have to do for us and our baby to survive the harsh economic crisis.

It must be noted that much planning might have been put into combatting certain situations such as, been able to provide fully for a family, including the newborn. So many thoughts will have to go into planning for the baby and you inMommy and Baby a bad economy.

There are so many persons who were employed.  Then, a critical thing  happened.   The father’s position was made redundant before the baby was born or shortly after its birth. It may be a case that the company with which the father works had to lay off staff because of the weak economy.

Many companies, even established multi-national and small scale companies are undergoing mergers or declaring bankruptcy and many have closed. Even home- based businesses are closing. The price of raw material to work with has been out of reach for some companies.

Again, and again, there will be much consideration as to the question of survival: How can I and my baby survive in this bad economy?

In this article, suggestions will be made as to the different ways that parents looking for a way how to make money in a bad economy can participate and make some cash to survive economically.

Niche Marketing

Niche marketing is one of the currently and largely popular ways of how to make money in a bad economy. If you are one of those persons who use the internet sparingly, it will help if you make it a point to engage the internet usage a lot more for you benefit. Niche Marketing does not require a whole lot of expertise to succeed in. It is important though for you to be an innovative thinker.
The key is to identify a need that you can meet or a problem for which you can provide a solution. In that way, you would have also established a target group to which you will cater to.

Many persons stay at home moms or fathers who may want to stay at home and spend time with their families do engage in niche marketing. I will use this opportunity to recommend one of the most popular Niche marketing platforms.

Freelance Writing

Outside of Niche Marketing, there are so many platforms that have opened opportunities for people to stay at home and make big cash. Remember, I am not talking about “get rich quick schemes”. Somehow I do not subscribe to these, (get rich quick schemes). I firmly believe that anything you do get too easy will go in the same way and most times leave you embarrassed.
What do you think about freelance writing? There are several platforms that arePerson Using Laptop offering freelancers and work at home moms and fathers, the opportunity to make a living with their skill. If you like to write, these are where you should want to turn. There are opportunities in different categories such as writing, graphics, website designs or programming. You can sign up to start making a reasonable income that will help you to realize your financial goals, pay your bills and take care of your family.

Dоіng Some Other Marketing

You can do some other marketing by selling unwanted items that you have in your household.
There is always the tendency to accumulate much clutter in our homes. It is а good idea tо clear out the kitchen, rooms, closets, and garage periodically. Remember that it is not safe for children to be around clutter. Not safe for you either. Their environment must be clean, clear and spacious. (Connect to link on Environment page)

Therefore, organize а garage sale. Go through уоur bookshelf. If уоu do а lot оf reading, get rid оf books that уоu hаvе no uѕе for. Pеrhарѕ уоu have stacks оf old comics оr magazines thаt уоu have not opened for a long time and you have no nееd for. Whаtеvеr іt іѕ уоu feel no by cleared out, do it. Sоmеone out thеrе іѕ ѕurе to take an interest in it. People аrе аlwауѕ interested to ѕее what stuff іѕ bеіng cleared out and what thеу mау need.

A garage sale оr listing periodically іѕ а great idea оf hоw tо mаkе money іn bad economy.
You may ask yourself how sustainable is the garage sale. The fact is, it does not offer much sustainability. Most times, it is a periodic venture, but it can help you to get your feet off the ground until better comes.

I am certain that there are other means by which we can make reasonable incomes. I am thinking of legitimate income. Please let me hear from you about other things that you know can be done from an income. We can learn from one another. “Iron sharpens iron.”
I would also like to leave you with one last thought. Many persons do not realize that the cost of food is something to pay close attention to Many times the cheaper foodstuffs are the things that you do get more health benefits from. I am thinking about nutritive values.

In times like these, we do not look at what the Jones’ do. Therefore, it is always good to seek out food with great nutritive values. Read about the food you eat, see what it has to offers you. If the health benefits are great, those are the food to buy. Even if many persons do not buy it. As long as your stomach can take it, and it will do you good, buy it. It is good to eat for value and not for trash.

Please do remember if there is no medical stipulation for you regarding breastfeeding, the breast is the best exclusively for six months. Begin immediately after birth.

Do not forget that there are some foods labelled as no good by some persons. These foods may be sold at cheaper prices and are not bought by many persons. In truth and in fact, these foods may have great health benefits. They may be sold cheaper because they may not be widely bought. You may need to take a second look at these.

Please tell me what you think. I need to hear from you. Let me have your comments.

How a Mother Examines Her Baby

While at home she thought of what went through her mind.  It was a snap examination of her baby. She did this all by herself while she was in the hospital.

The woman in pregnancy is bombarded from day to day about what her baby would be like, who will the baby resemble, will it be born a normal and healthy child.

How a Mother Examines Her Baby

Opening her eyes, her first thought was to reach for her baby. This she did. She examined its face, body arms and feet.   The baby’s eyes were closed. She will find time to see those eyes. It was breathing delicately and timely.   What was she looking for?

About then she looked back at its head. She examined the hair, its texture.  She saw that it was good.  She moved quickly to the actual face.  She saw that there was no distortion.  A quick look at its head revealed that her previous glance of her child before she fell asleep had revealed  a misshaped head.

Now everything looked fine.  The head appears to be normal.  It was a reasonable size for a newborn. I must agree that the baby’s journey through the birth canal can contribute to its head being misshaped for a while.  This then becomes normal.

Quickly her thoughts jumped to “I hope the baby can hear”.  She saw that the baby’s two ears appeared to be normal. She knows that there stands the likelihood that if the child is not hearing, it will be unable to speak. How was she to know this?  She asked herself.

Then something came to her mind.  She snapped her finger at its ears. The baby  responded but not in the way she wanted.    Only a slight movement was made.  There was the movement of the eyes even though the eyes were still closed.  She comforted herself by saying: At least there was a response maybe the baby can see.  She also thought that at a later date she would be able to check the baby’s eyes and ears.

Every woman wants a normal healthy baby.   She was looking for a normal healthy child. The mother was not finished.  She held one of the neonate’s hands and gently counted the fingers.  She did the same to the other.  All seemed well.  There were ten fingers, five on each hand.  They were all looking normal as they were proportionately sized and ordered. Her examination of the hands assured her that her baby will have the capability of using its hands.  The baby’s hands and arms were good.

She then moved to the child’s lower body.  Her eyes surveyed the trunk of the body.  Everything looked good.  Where else was she to look?  Oh, she thought, let me look at the genital.  In my opinion, that is a very important area to examine.  Why is this so? I have known at least two persons who have had abnormal genitals. These persons were allowed to grow up to teenage without anything  done about it.

Some Abnormalities That May be Seen at Birth

The mother had the thought to examine her baby for abnormalities.   Therefore, this mother is most likely to see to it that, what is to be done, will be done to correct any on toward situation.  For genital abnormalities, the earlier these are addressed the better it is for all affected and concerned.

Some of the  genital defects that may arise are ambiguous genital, a fusion of the labia, structure that appeared to be a small penis attached, undescended testes, enlarged clitoris which sometimes gives the appearance of a penis. Urethral opening may also be located in unusual places at the genital area.  Ambiguous genitals make it difficult or somewhat difficult to differentiate if the baby is truly boy or girl.   There are also other types of birth defects that may occur.

Genital defects should be reported  as early as they are found. If these are things that can not be addressed  at a tender age then an appointed time will be set for this.   There are persons who do not report these defects  for medical attention because of fear of embarrassment and stigma.

These are sensitive issues and is understood by the medical team as such. Most of these cases are handled by a team of specialists along with situation specific counselling. Babies that are born in a reputable birth unit are most times examined by the paediatrician before discharge.

However, somethings are firstly seen by the watchful eyes of the mother.  She and family members will have some serious decisions to make concerning the issue. This cannot be over-emphasized.

Continuing her examination of her baby, the mother looked at the lower extremities.  Many thoughts ran through her mind.  These were questions that some could only be answered by “Time,” (not someone’s name, but terms of days months and years).  For example: When will these feet walk with me to the door? When will these feet be able to go to school?  If I were asked these questions, I would have answered: “Soon>”  In a short while from then, this child will be going to school.  “Time waits for no man”.

To her, the legs and feet were looking normal. Each foot had five toes and the were proportionately formed and ordered.   This day, she remembered that She had to make a keen examination of the baby’s eyes again.  This she had to do approximately a weeks after her first examination of her baby in the hospital.

She made sure her hands were clean. Then she delicately examined the lids of the eyes and the eyeballs.  Everything seemed okay to her.  There was no pus in the eyes. Of course, there was also no swelling of the eyelids.

The eyes were vital organs and were necessary for her to examine.  Who would want their baby to be at risk of infection to the eyes and to go unnoticed?  This would also cause the baby to be at risk for blindness.  But Oh no, the possibility exist that the baby could have picked up a serious infection while coming through the birth canal.

This would have been possible if the mother had infections.  Infections such as Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonococcus organisms.  One must realise that disinfecting the exterior of the genital would not have taken care of the interior of the birth canal or genitalia, for some organisms.  The fact also is that the mother could have been infected with the organisms and do not know. These organisms can cause an illness called Opthalmia neonatorum.  If untreated it  may cause blindness.

But let us, look at this.   Because of the seriousness of these organisms and the problem that they can cause to the baby’s eyes, great care is taken to treat the baby’s eyes immediately after birth.  But did the mother know this?  She could have known.   However,  she was still making sure that all was well.

Therefore, it is a wise mother who does her own examination of her baby, regardless of what was done by the nursing staff.  Mothers do not always know in these cases of what was done or may not have been done.  Mothers do fall asleep after labour.  This mother satisfied herself by doing a physical examination of her own baby, to note that all is well with her child as far as she could see.

There is so much to look at on your newborn.  What were your expectations? Every mother’s expectation is always to have a healthy and normal baby.

Therefore over and over she will examine her child.  She will probably move her hands  across the baby’s face to see if the infant winks a little.  Then she will think: “O yes my baby is seeing”.  Furthermore, she may want  to snap her finger near to the ears to see if there are indications to say the child is hearing.  Lower extremities are also examined for any deformities.

You will agree that mothers go through periods of anxieties on the birth of their babies. tell me, what do you think? Please let me hear from you.

A Review on Childbearing

Here we are again taking another look at What We Know About Childbearing.   This post is aimed at satisfying you on the discussion to what you know about childbearing.

If you will remember that previous post was to engage you in a discussion on some of the things mentioned on the site.   However, let me hasten here to say that I have this present post which is to provide the immediate answers to the topics.  The review is by no means a full discussion of the topics or words mentioned in the process of childbearing, but it will give further understanding of the subject.

It is also important to note that these are not the dictionary or medical book explanations or meanings of the topics.   They are discussed in the way that I understand it and on  a down to earth level.

Therefore, please see a brief description of the topics mentioned.

Antenatal (see Prenatal): This refers to the care given to the pregnant women before the birth of her baby. Prenatal also called Antenatal care is given to prevent and also to ensure that the mother and baby are healthy while the baby is in the womb and even after birth.  It is worthy to note that the care given after birth of the baby is referred to as postnatal.

Abnormal: That which does not happen, look or feel, within the usual happening or norm.  Being unusual.

Afterbirth: When this word is written as two different words (ie “after birth”) it means after the delivery of the baby.   In differentiation of the  compounded words, it is usually written or spoken of as: “after the birth” to mean after the delivery of the baby, as said before.

However, or on the other hand, The compounded word, “Afterbirth” is an organ which comes from the womb shortly after the birth/delivery of the baby. The other name for Afterbirth is Placenta.

The placenta is the organ which supplies blood and nutrients to the baby in the womb. After the baby is born the afterbirth  comes out of the womb.  The  umbilical chord which is also known as the navel string attaches to the afterbirth/ placenta.  The delivery of the Afterbirth is the third stage of labour.

Breech: This is when the baby’s lower part of the body is positioned downwards and the head of the baby is positioned at the top.  This indicates that a breech presentation is likely to happen. In a breech presentation, the baby’s lower part of the body is presented first instead of the head.

Birth: The delivery of a baby. In other words, the baby comes from the womb.

Birth canal: That area from the womb, cervix, then through the vaginal area. the baby passes through the birth canal during birth.

Buttocks: The two fleshy lobes of the upper of the  lower part of the body situated at the rear.

Contraction: This is the forceful push of the baby on its way out of the womb. This (contraction) occurs when the baby is  at full term.  However, contractions do happen prematurely also.  Contractions are signs that the baby is ready for delivery. Contractions may occur also, when the muscles are preparing for delivery. Like doing a “warm up” for the great day, labour.  These are usually seen as pseudo-contractions

Cervix: The neck or entrance of the womb.

Childbirth: The expulsion of the baby from the womb and through the birth canal.

Caesarean (section, operation): Commonly referred to as C. Section is a major surgical procedure by which a baby is taken from the uterus (womb). This type of delivery is carried out when there are times of difficulties.

This intervention is a sparkle decision as it always serve as the best thing to do in most childbirth emergencies.  In most cases, the women started off in labour with an aim to have her baby naturally  via the birth canal.

However, during labour, if it is found that she has developed problems or, the baby is in undue distress, for one reason or the other.  The ultimate and best thing  is for the doctor to decide on what to do for both the baby and the mother, or one or the other.

The Caesarean operation is done not only in cases of emergency but it is also done electively. It is also done electively because there are some persons who do baby-c sectionnot wish to labour or have their babies through the birth canal.  This is done for varying reasons too. Therefore, these persons may choose to have a Caesarean Operation.

Can you think of some of the reasons why some women would like to have a Caesarean operation instead of one by the birth canal?  You may submit this feedback in the comments section below also.

In the Caesarean operation, an incision is made through the woman’s abdominal wall and the uterus (womb).  The baby is then removed from the womb.  The placenta (afterbirth and other products of the pregnancy are also removed.  All necessary procedures of the operation, for example, contraction of the uterus to prevent over bleeding are initiated.

The incisions are closed by stitching and everything properly looked after and the baby is prepared to greet mother as soon as she gets over her anaesthesia dosage.

Delivery (baby): The eventful process and exit of the baby from the womb to the outside world after the time of maturity in the womb.  However, while delivery of the infant may be at full term. Delivery of the baby may also be before full term (premature).

Episiotomy:  This is  important, and may be considered a simple surgery done in childbirth. It is done on the assessment of the birth attendant in response to prevent a third-degree laceration to the perineum. It is always better to do this quick and simple surgery that to allow the tissue to be jaggedly damaged by the force of the baby as it rests on the perineum.

Enema: The Liquid cleansing of the rectum.  Mentioned in the process of childbirth, this is done to prevent contamination of the childbirth field with faeces.   Enema given to the pregnant woman at the onset of labour will also help in making labour somewhat easier.

En Utero: Means “in the womb”

Expectant: This is wishful inevitable thought of the person in pregnancy. It also describes the state of the pregnant woman as she stands in a situation to which she expects a favourable outcome. In other words “Expectant” describes the fact that she is looking forward to her baby or in a situation that she is going to have a baby.

Faecal: Describes a state of anything to which has been exposed to faeces. Faeces is solid excretion from the body, (faecal matter). To be contaminated with faeces.

Fetus: The developing or unborn baby in the womb.

Genital: This refers to the external parts of the male and female                  reproductive organs. For the female, the genital would be referring to the vaginal lips, (the labia majora and labia minora) the clitoris, and surrounding areas such as the mons pubis and the perineum.

The male genital consists of the penis, which is made up of the glans penis, the foreskin or prepuce, the testes or seeds, the scrotum orseed bag and surrounding area of these.

Headwater:  The headwater is a show of water or fluid or discharge of amniotic fluid which occur when the pregnant woman is in an advance or active state of labour.   This is  often referred to as “the headwater breaks.”   The amniotic fluid is contained in a sac. Whenever this is ruptured or broken there happens a shower of fluid (the headwater) from the vagina.

After the headwater is broken it is expected that the pregnant woman will give birth soon after.  This happening gives way for high alert.  Therefore if the baby’s birth is delayed the birth attendant (s) will need to mitigate since a delayed delivery puts the baby at risk for infection.

Labour: This is the characterisation of signs and symptoms to indicate that the pregnant woman is about to deliver her baby.  Some signs and symptoms of labour are vomiting, contractions, mucus exudate from the vagina, back and abdominal pains among other signs and symptoms.

Lightening: Is a downward ease of the baby in the woman’s abdomen.  The abdomen appears of a falling at a lower level.  Some experienced persons would say that “the belly drops”.  This is referred to as lightening. This is said to give an indication that the baby has turned and is taking its position to be on its way out of the womb.

Multiple (births): Having more than one baby in a single birth.

Nausea: Most times referred to a being or feeling sick in the stomach. The sense of wanting to vomit.

Morning sickness: This is signs and symptoms which indicate that a woman is pregnant.  These signs and symptoms may be vomiting, nausea, weakness, headache, lethargy and fatigue among other things.

Morning sickness is named so because these or most of these signs or symptoms occur in the mornings.  For some persons, “morning sickness” wears off as the day wears on.   Most times it is the sign and symptoms that give the woman the first information that she is pregnant. Not only does morning sickness send a message of pregnancy to the pregnant woman but it also sends a message to her  associates or persons around her.

Pregnancy: Being with a child.  Bearing a baby or babies

Perineum: That narrow stretch of tissue between the anus and the vagina.

Placenta: See Afterbirth

Reproductive organs (female): Organs of the body that are involved in the making of a baby. These organs are the fallopian tube the ovary, the womb, cervix and the vagina. These organs are responsible for menstruation, fertilisation conception, accommodation of the fertilised egg, the developing embryo and finally birth of the baby.

Reproductive organs (male): The reproductive organs of the male are, the prostate, urethra, penis, testicle, and scrotum.  Most of the male reproductive organs are situated on the outside.

Sitz Bath: This is a restorative treatment made up mainly of salt and water and in some cases herbs are added.  The person receiving the treatment is required to sit in the bath.  In some cases, the person may also  sit over a pail and the affected area be steamed with the prepared concoction.

Uterus: A structure of the reproductive system. This important structure houses the fertilised egg until development into a fully developed baby until birth. The uterus is also known as the womb.  The uterus or womb is integrally important in reproduction.

Baby Homecoming Tips

It is truly baby’s homecoming. The baby has finally arrived.  Born to see a host of personalities.  Yet the baby has no memory from whence it came.  Your baby has arrived in a whole new world.   The world which has its good and its bad.  Yet, this is home to your newborn child. This post will offer some tips for its homecoming.

You may be thinking of your child in an unfriendly world.  Unfriendly because there are many challenges.  Yet at the same time a world which you and your baby will have to live.  You will have to make the best of it for yourself and your child.

You must try to make the bad, good and the good better, the better best and then maintain the best situation.   This is your duty.    Mother, father and family members must work together to make the child happy and to be at its best as he or she grows.

Very often I have heard first parents say that they had to put away the  lifestyles that they used to have immediately before having their babies.  They had to cultivate new lifestyles.  This they had to do because they had to set good examples for their children by fostering a good life.

Talking to them as often as I have heard this I did learn much.  Some mothers say that they were accustomed to being spendthrifts but having a child they had to look at things in different ways.  Baby has to be taken care of.  Money is also vital to the upbringing of the child.

The car now pulls up at the gateway to the house. The baby is well dressed in its  homecoming outfit and is well hooded to take its first outdoor trip.  It is expectedBaby Homecoming that the baby is warmly dressed as it is not at all acclimatised to being on the
outside world as yet.  This would be more so if it were in the cold season or cold areas.  Therefore, the choice of clothing is particularly of importance for the baby’s homecoming.

Prior to this arrival, there should be someone home who has been trying to ensure that:

  1. The baby’s nursery is in good order.  The bassinet is freshly and properly made with clean soft baby linen (blanket, and other necessary things).
  2. Mommy’s bed is also properly made and waiting for her to occupy it.   Mommy must also remember, though, that walking around can be very beneficial.
  3. Facilitate relaxation for the new mother.  It is most times noticeable that mommy is more relaxed at home than in the hospital.  As long as she is in no undue pain she will always be relaxed in her own domain.  Often times, if she had been in a private unit before coming home she might have wanted to see more people than just a selected number of family members. That is if she is a person who is extremely sociable. On the other hand, she may not want to have many persons around her, because she is a private person. being at home allows the situation to be tempered with likes and dislikes.   The situation that is desired should offer rest and relaxation for both baby and mother.
  4. Whatever the situation do not disturb the mother or baby if they are sleeping to meet the visitors.  Visitors may be encouraged to take a peep silently and to come again.  The mother needs energy and everything to contend with the baby who is likely to get miserable at times especially at nights.
  5. Importantly, the caregiver must also rest.  A good thing to do is that caregivers can ‘steal’ even a nap when baby and mother are sleeping.
  6. The caregiver should prepare meals on time for the mother as she will be ready to feed the baby from the breast.  That is if breastfeeding is not a medical stipulation.
  7. Keep hands and clothings, clean at all times.  Mother and caregiver must practice good personal hygiene.  Remember that the hands are agents of spread for infections.
  8. Persons holding baby should also do using a blanket or a towel to form a barrier between baby and person. The aim is to reduce or prevent transferer of germs carried on clothing.

Can you imagine the scene when the family members, the older family member I should say visit the baby for the first time?   I guess you will not realise one of the most outstanding things that they are there to see.  I must interject that not only will family members do this but friends will too.

Have you finished considering the answer to this question?  I will tell you, but this is the deal.  You will have to give me your opinion on this, my answer.   Here it is.  Their first observation is to see who the baby resembles.

The matter of whose nose, eyes and so forth the child has.  Some will not be contented because the baby was not seen as having their nose or eyes or lips.  Some will be downright jealous because others thought the baby had beautiful eyes and it is theirs.  Whatever the situation, everyone will be very happy for both mother and child.

You will realise also that the baby homecoming serves as a family reunion on both sides of the family.  These are the maternal and paternal sides.  Friends of Baby Homecomingboth sides are usually thrown in the mix as well.  Therefore, do not be surprised if some persons arranged for the fire, the food and the music. It is party time for baby homecoming!!

Overall, the baby’s homecoming is something that everyone looks forward to and see as a grand happy time for family and friends.   For some persons, the homecoming is the best time for them to give or shower the baby with gifts.  While others would have already given their gifts while the mother was pregnant.

Regardless of what will be said and done, it is important that the baby should be held with clean hands. A clean and noise free (better to say a reasonable level of noise or chattering)  environment is good for the baby).

I welcome your comments on this post concerning baby’s homecoming.  Do you have anything that you would want to add to this?

You may want share with other readers about baby’s homecoming in your culture.  I would like to hear from you about this as there may be cultural issues concerning baby’s homecoming in some areas. For example special things done on this particular time- baby’s  homecoming.

Please let me have your comments.

What to Know About Childbearing

Let us get somewhat more interactive on this matter of what to know about childbearing. Therefore, I have another little exercise for you.

Below are some words used in the process of childbearing.   ( Broadly speaking childbirth is that process by which we make delivery of our reproduction and childbearing is the process of conception, carrying the product, (which in totality is reproduction) and the delivery of that fruit of reproduction.   I guess you would like to ask, where did I get that definition.  I would only answer to say that is my definition. That is, as I see it. Please receive my definition for what it is worth). Thank you.

I would ask that you discuss these words below with me by writing in to say what is your understanding or what you know about these words as it pertains to childbearing.

You may choose a word or two from below for discussion. I have chosen to discuss one of the words. That is Caesarean Section/Operation.   You may also add your piece of the story to this.

You may do so in the comments section below. You do not have to write as much as I did, on the word or words that you choose.

Doing it this way, we may be able to set up our little “childbirth dictionary” or our “Knowledge Well” on childbirth. It will also help us to see what you think or know and also what others understand.  I trust you will see this as fun while giving and receiving information, which will lead to education.  Let’s go!!

As I have said before these are some words regarding childbirth for discussion.

Why Episiotomy

Episiotomy is an important simple surgical intervention or procedure that maybe done in childbirth. Though simple the action carries good results. It is not necessary for every childbirth but has to be done when the situation calls for it.

What is and Why an Episiotomy?

An episiotomy done is responsive to the well-being of the mother. A third-degree laceration would not be very good for the mother. A third-degree laceration made by the forceful push of the baby on the perineum can cause complications both presently and later on.  Therefore, the doctor has to prevent this by making a clean clear cut (the incision) to prevent the jaggedness.

  • To have a jagged laceration to stitch proves some difficulty
  • The area (the jagged stitched area, the perineum) is likely to give way in the future.
  • May cause problem concerning fecal matter from the anus into the vaginal area. That is the stitches become loosed or give way.

Therefore, an episiotomy is done to prevent these.

Episiotomy procedure is done by the person in attendant (doctor or nurse). This procedure is done by making a small incision in order to facilitate the head of the baby in making its headway out of the birth canal.

What really happens in most cases is that the tissues of the birth canal is not sufficiently stretched or is not elastic enough to accommodate the baby’s head going through.  Therefore, there is a great measure of resistance.   By all means the baby is still on its way out.  There is great pressure as the baby is making its way out by the contractions of the uterus.

If there is no intervention the pressure from the baby’s head on the perineum (that is that narrow passage between the vaginal opening and the anus) will cause a tear to occur.  This tear is most likely to be jagged.  You can imagine the difficulty this may pose.  In order to prevent this, a simple incision is done.

While this is being done it is not felt by the woman in delivery mostly because of the pressure which is placed on the perineum.  After the third stage of labour, that is when the placenta (also called afterbirth) comes out the incision  is stitched.

I must tell you that this procedure will cause some discomfort a short time after. It causes some uncomfortable effect.   Who is better able to speak than those who has been in and through it? For some people, there is the fear of sitting. There is pain. There is some pressure if one tries to laugh.  There is the pain. Walking is done cramply, as there is pain.  This is much discomfort.

On the other hand, remember, getting an episiotomy prevents uncomfortable and maybe embarrassing effects also.  In other, words it can also prevent a future problem.

I hope I did not frighten you, some persons fear of pain is higher than some others.  As you know there are some persons who suck in pain. Pain is truly pain for me all the time. I do not know what it means to have  a very slight pain.  I may be exaggerating, but it is just to let you understand how I feel about pain.

Treatment for Episiotomy Pains

Anyhow, do not be afraid.  There is a solution.  The thing that gives the greatest ease to this situation is the sitz bath.  The sitz bath is restorative, healing, it is soothing. There is nothing like the sitz bath (if there is, another proven one, I do not know of it) in this case.

Therefore, your report of another will be very good.  Please let me hear from you.

How To Do A Simple Sitz Bath

Firstly I must tell you that even a simple sitz bath will work well.  Therefore, I will tell you of a simple sitz bath that works just as good as any other.  I guess you are seeking relief first.

Get a bath one that you can sit in. Even if you cannot sit in it a pail can do. Pour  an amount of water enough to cover your whole bottom area. That is your vaginal area and buttocks must be in. You do not even have to have your feet in the bath.  If you want to have your body in, wash your feet before going in.

Pour in some salt in the water. Your may put the amount of salt depending on the amount of water.  You may use about two tablespoons of salt to a gallon of water. (Remember you do not have to corn it. Laugh).  Unrefined Sea Salt is the best salt to use for this.  But ordinary table salt will help.

The water must be warm, as warm as you can bear it. Remember you are going to sit in it. Sit for about ten to fifteen minutes. That is a great help.If you use a pail. Prepare in the same way. To administer, keep washing up the mixture on the affected area for the same length of time.

This will be very good.  There are other sitz baths prepared with herbs and other types of salt, but this is the simple one which gives just what you are looking for at the moment.  Relief and healing from the discomfort.

Make sure your bath or pail is very clean.  Frequent handwashing is important.  Try not to get the incision infected. You can do the sitz bath two times per day. Rest well.

Have you ever experienced having an episiotomy? I would like to hear from you about this.  Secondly, do you have a fear that you may have to get one?

I would like to hear from you.  You may do so in the comments section below. If you have any questions you may also ask them in the comments section.  I will be willing to answer them.

I Do Not Want Twin

” I do not want twin.” This was clearly said by a woman I met recently.  She was not with the fact that she was carrying twins.

It is  a fact that people’s thoughts, concerns, likes and dislikes may be  fashioned by what they know, past experience and economic situations among other things.  Which of these factors do you think would carry the greatest impact for a woman to say that she does not want to have two babies at the same time?

Few weeks ago I sat in the waiting room of a medical centre in my locality. This was where I met a woman who was in pregnancy and found out that she would not like to have twin babies.  Of course, she had other concerns but this one came to me first because of  a conversation that we had.

On entering the waiting area, I surveyed the place for a seat.  Then I saw a vacant chair.  Beside this empty chair sat a calm looking pregnant woman. I must tell you that the waiting area was one which accommodates mixed clients since there were about three medical specialists working on that day.  They were all using the same waiting area.

I approached her and asked if it was okay for me to occupy the vacant chair.  I did not want to deprive the previous person who sat in it.  I thought someone was coming back to it.  She calmly informed me that it was alright for me to sit.

After sitting,  and giving her kind salutation for the day I somewhat jokingly said to her: ” It is good to be sitting beside the three of you”.  On saying that, she pulled her head and shoulders a little backward to the side and looked me in the face surprised.  I said to her: ” Why do you look at me like that?”   She said: ” This is strange”.  My question to her again was: “Why?”

She said she has been going to two other doctors before this one (the doctor she was now at) and none of them told her she would be having twins.   She also said that she went back to the other two and they did not diagnose this even then.

She then told me that it was only until few weeks ago that this present doctor told her that she was truly carrying twins. That was two weeks ago she said.   She was in her last month of pregnancy.

I must tell you I had a strong feeling or maybe suspicion that she was with two babies.  I told her this even though I said it somewhat jokingly as I have said before.   I did not rub nor hammer this suspicion on nor in.  But I told her I feel so strongly.

She said for me to be telling her that and not knowing her it was a shock to her, because she did not believe the doctor, as she did not know what to believe.   I again  jokingly said to her: “Give me one of the babies”  I was really joking now.  She again pulled back in the same manner in the way she did when I indicated that she would be having twins.

She said: ” I do not want twin”. But I cannot give you.  She really took me seriously.  She said she was not prepared for twins in no way.  She said the timing was not right.  She just cannot manage with that.

I encouraged her as much as possible.  Somehow, before we parted I think she was thinking on a different line.  I saw her a week ago and she was in good spirit ready to have her babies.

While I spoke with her and listened to her.  It came to me that I was having a time of deja vu.  At the moment, I tried to figure out why this was so.

I remember some years ago, that I was at a supermarket that I went up to the cashier to pay for the goods that I picked up.  I saw a young pregnant woman whom I knew at the cashier.  She was already there paying for her goods.

I said: “Girl how are you? I can see you are doing fine.  You are truly blooming and (I whispered to her) you are going to have twins.”   I was leaving the supermarket before her and she indicated to me to that she wanted to talk with me. During those years, Ultra-sound if available was out of the reach of most persons. Both in location and cost.

She said that she does not want to hear what  I telling her at all.  I told her that I strongly feel so, but however, I could be wrong.  I remember telling her that I actually see the babies in her.  What I meant the babies were clearly demarcated as two. I said to her here is one and there is the other over here.  That was a clear fact to me.  If I were a gambler I would make my bet.

She said that she did not really want to hear that because she can only take care of one child at a time.  She was unemployed and I suspected that she did not have a firm support.   We parted as she told me that if that is so she will send me one of the babies since I was in a better position.

Maybe I might have been a little unkind to her, based on her situation.  I told her that she was going to have twins, whether she liked it or not she must be prepared to receive them with everything she has.  They were already there.

I saw her months later. She told me she has been waiting to see me.   She said she has been telling everybody that I was the only person who knew that she was carrying twin.   She informed me had she two boys.  Whenever we meet she would usually update me about “the boys”.  She would also refer to them as “your boys”.

What did these two women have in common?  Both were not ready for twins.  However, to an extent, they both had mixed feeling about the situation.  They accepted it after all.  Both knew late in pregnancy.

Both women knew late in pregnancy. Was it a case that the health providers (including maternity nurses) knew but in their assessment of the two women’s frame of mind did not give way for them to be told about it at that time? Doctors do know that in everything especially some things that “mind and body have to be fit” for some things to work out well.

If you think you have the answer, please discuss here in the comment section of my post.

I remember explaining to the pregnant woman whom I saw at the medical centre that it depends on the period or trimester that she was seen by the other two doctors.  I might have been too early then.   I did not have all the details.

I have also told her that the heart beats of the babies may be beating simultaneously in the same rhythm.  Therefore, the differentiation of two different heart beats would have been too difficult to pick up.   It could also be the case where one of the babies could be lying or hiding behind the other.

I was always wanting to have to have a twin. I have them on both sides of my family and also in my family.  I had twin sisters.  One of my twin sisters died before I was born.

Please let me have your comments on this post.
